According to the Joint Statement of the China-US Geneva Economic and Trade Talks dated May 12, 2025, the tariff situations for China and the United States since May 14 are as follows:
U.S. Tariffs on China:
91% of additional tariffs on Chinese goods are eliminated.
A 24% "reciprocal tariff" is suspended for 90 days.
A 10% base tariff and a 20% fentanyl-specific tariff are retained, with the final comprehensive tariff rate reduced to 30%.
China's Tariffs on the U.S.:
91% of countermeasures tariffs are eliminated.
A 24% tariff is suspended for 90 days.
A 10% base tariff is retained, with the comprehensive tariff rate reduced from 125% to 10%.
Meanwhile, countermeasures such as Section 301 tariffs (7.5%-25%), Section 232 tariffs (5%-25%), and fentanyl-related tariffs (10%-15%) remain in place.
A joint working group has been established to negotiate long-term tariff policies within the next 90 days. If no agreement is reached within 90 days, the suspended 24% tariff may be reinstated.
